London & Chippenham based Spencer Whittle is a studio of designers, makers, and thinkers based in reimagining how we build, live, and learn together. Based between the workshop and the drawing board, we work across architecture, interiors, furniture, and placemaking to turn ideas into tangible realities that leave a lasting social and environmental legacy.
We believe the built world should care for people, for craft, and for place. Our projects span adaptive reuse, community regeneration, and circular design, rooted in the belief that true innovation starts with empathy and making.
Founded by Phil Spencer and Johnny Whittle, the practice brings together strategic foresight and hands-on craft across design, planning and build. Phil’s background spans furniture and interior design, urban regeneration and systems thinking. Johnny adds three decades in architectural joinery, interior and product design, fine furniture making, and extensive experience navigating UK town planning and design-and-build delivery. Together, they lead a collaborative atelier where curiosity, material intelligence and pragmatic invention guide every stage from concept to construction
At Spencer Whittle, there is no fixed style only a shared pursuit of authenticity and purpose. We listen first, question everything, and work side-by-side with clients, craftspeople, and communities to create buildings, spaces, and experiences that feel human, useful, and alive.
Our best work happens where vision meets making and where every project becomes a platform for learning, training, and meaningful change.
